Dr. Cassandra Bates is the Owner and Veterinarian at Sumner Springs Vet Clinic, formerly known as Enoch Veterinary Clinic, a bustling veterinary practice located in Gallatin, Tennessee. Dr. Bates took the helm of Sumner Springs in October 2023, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a passion for caring for animals large and small.

Originally hailing from Nashville, Dr. Bates’s journey into veterinary medicine was sparked by her deep-rooted love for animals. After graduating from Middle TN State University, she pursued her dream at the University of TN College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her degree in 2014. Returning to middle Tennessee with her husband, Josh, Dr. Bates spent over 9 years working alongside Dr. Michael Towns in Hartsville before seizing the opportunity to purchase Dr. Enoch’s practice.

Dr. Bates’s devotion to the veterinary industry stems from her desire to improve the lives of pets and their owners. From her early days volunteering at local humane associations to her current role as a seasoned veterinarian, she remains dedicated to finding innovative ways to promote animal health and well-being. For Dr. Bates, the most rewarding aspect of her profession is witnessing animals recover from illness and injury, knowing she played a part in their healing journey.

Specializing in both small and large animal medicine, Dr. Bates finds particular joy in surgical procedures, ranging from routine spays and neuters to intricate mass removals and fracture repairs. She also relishes the opportunity to engage in large animal medicine, assisting farmers with cattle vaccinations and tending to sick sheep, goats, and horses. Dr. Bates is an active member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA) and the TN VMA, staying connected with her peers and continuing to expand her knowledge in the field.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Bates finds solace and joy in her family life. Married to Josh since 2010, they share two sons, Jeremiah and Oliver, who are actively involved in music and sports. Dr. Bates herself enjoys singing at local events and church gatherings, while Jeremiah showcases his talent on the fiddle in contests across the United States. With a household bustling with activity and a menagerie of animals including horses, dogs, cats, and cows, Dr. Bates’s life is a testament to her unwavering commitment to both her family and the welfare of animals.

Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician

Josie Taylor is a dedicated Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician at Sumner Springs Veterinary Clinic. Born in Arizona, Josie has spent the majority of her life in Middle Tennessee, where she developed a deep-rooted connection to the community. She pursued her passion for animal care by graduating from the Veterinary Technician Program at Volunteer State Community College (Volstate) with an associate’s degree.

Josie’s favorite aspect of working with animals is the unique bond she forms with each one, finding joy in their individual personalities and the comfort she can provide them.

Outside of her professional life, Josie enjoys a vibrant family life with her husband, Patrick, and their two-year-old daughter, Willow. Together, they cherish moments spent at the Zoo and swimming, creating lasting memories. Josie’s passion for animal care and her devotion to her family make her a valued member of the Sumner Springs Veterinary Clinic team.

Josh Bates

Practice Manager

Josh Bates serves as the Co-owner and Clinic Manager of Sumner Springs Vet Clinic, bringing a wealth of experience and passion for animal care to his role. Originally from Nashville, TN, Josh graduated from McGavock High School before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN. His journey into the veterinary industry began in 2014 when he started working alongside his wife, Dr. Cassandra Bates, assisting her in providing quality care to animals.

For Josh, the moment he knew he was in the right profession was when he met Dr. Bates in high school and recognized their shared love for animals. As they embarked on their journey together, caring for numerous animals on their family farm and beyond, Josh’s passion for animal care only grew stronger. Outside of work, Josh enjoys spending time with his family, tending to their small family farm, fishing, and staying active by playing softball on the church team. His commitment to animal welfare extends beyond the clinic, reflecting his deep-rooted connection to nature and his community.

Carole Ann Maxwell

Accountant

Carole Ann Maxwell, a proficient Accountant at Sumner Springs Veterinary Clinic, brings a robust educational background and years of accounting experience to her role. Holding a bachelor’s degree and an associate of applied science in Business Management and Accounting, Carole’s roots in Gallatin, TN, have provided her with a deep understanding of the local community. Married to Rellon Maxwell Jr. for 35 years, they share a daughter, Lindsey Maxwell Ellis, who serves as an educator in the Sumner County School system. Outside of work, Carole enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, participating in church music ministry, playing the piano, indulging in retail therapy through shopping, and expressing her creativity through home decor projects.

Olivia Shelton is a dedicated front desk professional at Sumner Springs Veterinary Clinic, bringing extensive experience in customer service and finance. Originally from Israel and fluent in three languages, Olivia’s diverse background enriches her role and enhances her ability to connect with clients. Her move to Sumner Springs and subsequent decision to join the clinic were driven by her admiration for the owners and a deep love for animals, especially dogs.

Olivia’s favorite part of her job is interacting with and caring for the numerous animals that come through the clinic, and she is known for her eagerness to learn and willingness to tackle any task.

Outside of work, Olivia is a devoted mother of four young children, all under ten years old. She enjoys cooking and exploring new restaurants, favoring practical gifts like her favorite foods over flowers. At 38, Olivia seamlessly balances her professional and personal life, making her an invaluable asset to the Sumner Springs Veterinary Clinic.

Despite his musical background, Tim’s path eventually led him to the veterinary industry through a family connection. When his daughter and son-in-law purchased Enoch Veterinary Clinic, Tim felt compelled to lend a hand, fueled by a lifelong love for animals and a desire to support his family.

Outside of his role at Sumner Springs Veterinary Clinic, Tim’s world revolves around his family. He shares his life with his wife, Kim, and takes pride in his daughter, Cassandra, and two grandsons, Jeremiah and Oliver. Music has always been Tim’s passion, and he has enjoyed a successful career as a professional singer and musician, performing on prestigious stages like The Grand Ole Opry and touring across the United States and overseas.

Her path to Sumner Springs began with her husband, a retired Lieutenant Police Officer, as they discovered their love for Tennessee during vacations starting in 2001. Seven years ago, they made the life-changing decision to settle in Tennessee upon his retirement, fulfilling Wendy’s dream of owning a log cabin in this serene setting.

Amidst the tranquility of her log cabin, she cultivates lush vegetable gardens and savors the bounty of farm-fresh foods, embracing the simplicity and beauty of country living.

Brianna pursued her education at Cumberland University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, and is currently working towards her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, with plans to graduate in 2028.

They spend their free time outdoors, riding horses, hiking, and enjoying activities with their nieces and nephews. Brianna’s commitment to both her profession and her family underscores her dedication and compassionate nature.

Brittany is one of our dedicated groomers. Her journey in the veterinary field began in 2014, and her passion for animal care has only grown since. After graduating from vet tech school in 2018, Brittany discovered her love for grooming and has spent the past 16 years excelling in both roles. She finds immense satisfaction in creating positive experiences for pets and their owners, whether it’s working with a challenging dog that other groomers may shy away from or giving pets a fresh and polished look that brings joy to their families. Brittany’s favorite part of her job is knowing she’s making a difference in both the lives of animals and the clinics she serves.

Outside of work, Brittany enjoys a full and rewarding life with her five dogs, three cats, and her growing family in Gallatin, Tennessee. Originally from Columbia, she moved to Gallatin three years ago and has embraced her new community. With a little one, Karson, on the way, Brittany looks forward to continuing her passion for animal care while expanding her loving household.

Born and raised in Sumner County, Kailey has called Gallatin home since 2015. A senior at Gallatin High School, she is dedicated to pursuing her love for animals both in her studies and through her work at the clinic.

When she’s not at the clinic or school, Kailey enjoys spending time with her family in Castalian Springs and caring for her many pets at home. An avid reader and kayaker, she finds joy in both exploring new adventures on the water and diving into a good book.

From his favorite perch, he keeps a vigilant eye on the clinic, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. His soothing purrs and comforting presence help ease the nerves of both visitors and staff. With a knack for making people smile and a talent for expert napping, Sheldon truly embodies his motto: “Keeping our clinic safe, one purr at a time.”
